The dates market,
read with discipline.

A public customs unit-value indicator built from reported export value and net weight. It provides direction—not a quotation, spot price or substitute for a matched product specification.

Reading the number

What the index can—and cannot—tell you.

01 · Direction

Movement in reported trade unit value

A rise means the annual aggregate export value per reported net kilogram is above the 2023 base. It can reflect price, but also changes in variety, grade, crop condition, pack, reporter composition and origin mix.

02 · Comparison

A disciplined macro reference

The indicator helps frame a market conversation and compare periods on one consistent public basis. It is not a supplier benchmark or evidence of a product-specific transaction.

03 · Qualification

Commercial offers still require a full brief

Variety, grade, size, moisture, certification, packaging, quantity, crop year and delivery basis must be aligned before two date offers are genuinely comparable.

Methodology & data quality

Transparent enough
to challenge.

The public series is calculated from annual UN Comtrade records for HS 080410, exports to the world. Reported export value is divided by reported net weight after aggregating the five leading reporting exporters for each year.

The displayed index rebases the 2023 aggregate unit value to 100. Reporter membership can change between years, so the index is a broad trade-direction instrument rather than a matched-origin or matched-product price series.

Why this is not a “live date price”

HS 080410 combines fresh and dried dates across varieties, grades and presentations. Customs unit values also move when the shipment mix changes. The indicator therefore measures reported trade-value direction, not a matched-product price.

How data gaps and revisions are handled

UN Comtrade publishes country data as reporting authorities submit and revise it. VAULTRADE publishes the latest complete annual period visible in the cited source and records the review date. Later revisions may change historical observations.

How to use it commercially

Use the index as macro context. For an actual offer, compare written quotations only after aligning the complete product specification, documentation, packaging, quantity and delivery basis.
